Drumming summoned us from sleep early the following morning.  Mandy and I groggily stumbled up the nearest sand dune to watch the sunrise.  Soon, the morning’s first rays of light angled across the desert, painting the sand a thousand shades of red.  Afterwards, I took a few practice runs on a sandboard while we waited for the others to finish packing.  Then, we re-mounted our camels and ninety minutes later we arrived back in civilization.  Continue reading

We had planned to take the train from Fez to Marrakech, but soon realized that spending all of our time in Moroccan medinas would be too one-dimensional in a country with so much to offer.  We hastily changed our plans, chopping two days off from Fez and one from Marrakech and headed for the desert.   Continue reading
